"Creeping and capitulatory" – Arseniy Yatsenyuk on "peace negotiations" at the Kyiv Youth Security Forum
"I see no reason for a fair and lasting peace to be concluded between Ukraine and russia with the mediation of the United States. russia is seeking a fictitious ‘peace’ to occupy Ukrainian territory," said the KSF Chairman Arseniy Yatsenyuk, speaking to journalists at a briefing during the 11th Kyiv Youth Security Forum being held in the capital. He called these "negotiations" "creeping and capitulatory". "Putin has not changed any of his ultimate goals. His goal is the destruction of the Ukrainian state," the KSF Chairman emphasized. According to Yatsenyuk, the most important thing now is a united stance from the U.S., Europe, and Ukraine. "The russians actually ousted the EU and NATO from the negotiations. It is the European Union that should be responsible for conducting these negotiations." The next steps involve strengthening Ukraine's negotiating position. russia must see that the U.S. President is serious about supporting Ukraine. Congress must also pass a resolution to provide Ukraine with additional financial and military support. Additionally, the KSF Chairman said that the European Union should stop having "rather strange discussions" about using russian sovereign assets to support Ukraine. "Currently, there is no other mechanism in the EU, and it is impossible to win a war without money." The KSF Chairman mentioned that pressuring russia and its allies and supporters with secondary sanctions is necessary. This refers particularly to China and India, which purchase 85% of russian oil, as well as a number of countries that help russia circumvent sanctions. "Without this, there will be no peace. Without this, russia will continue to feign interest in peace talks and Ukraine's negotiating position will weaken,” Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasized.
