Letter to Mr. Mark Rutte, NATO Secretary General,
and the leaders of the NATO Member States
Dear Mr. Secretary General,
We are honored to address you on behalf of Ukrainian youth gathered at the 10th Kyiv Youth Security Forum organized by the Open Ukraine Foundation. At this crucial time for our country and the Euro-Atlantic community, we would like to express our deep determination that Ukraine’s future lies in NATO, and our nation is eager to bring new energy, ideas, and commitment to the Alliance.
Following years of Russia’s war of aggression, Ukraine has gained unique experience and expertise in defense, innovative approaches, and modern strategies that can strengthen NATO. Our developments in unmanned technologies, military strategy, and tactical innovations have repeatedly proven their effectiveness on the battlefield. This experience could contribute to the common security of all Alliance, strengthening collective defense and ensuring stability in the region and the world.
Ukraine’s membership in NATO will also send a strong signal to international investors about security guarantees and stability in our country. This can contribute to a significant increase in foreign direct investment, which will support our economy and strengthen European stability. Ukraine can become a reliable partner that is ready to contribute to the joint production and technological potential of the Alliance.
History proves that Ukraine has a legitimate claim to NATO membership within internationally recognized borders. There is a precedent when East Germany joined the Alliance as a full member after unification with the Federal Republic of Germany. Ukraine aspires to integrate with NATO as an equal partner, adding strength and new opportunities to our joint Alliance.
Ukrainian youth have made a decisive choice: we see our future within NATO as a future defined by freedom, security, and unity. We have chosen the path of freedom, security, and democratic values, and we are committed to join NATO’s collective security not only to protect our borders, but also to maintain peace and stability in the world. We believe that NATO, as a defender of democratic principles, is the best platform for us to uphold and promote these values.
Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of our highest consideration and our shared goal of building a secure and stable future together with NATO.
