Lars Adaktusson: Internal problems of the EU are connected with the lack of credence to the basic European values

15 April 2016, 12:29

“There are some grave problems in the EU: uncontrolled borders, problems with migration flows, possibility of withdrawal of certain countries from the EU, populism and economically inefficient management. I think that all these problems and difficulties result from the lack of respect for fundamental values,” – said Lars Adaktusson, Euro-MP, member of the Christian Democratic Party, during the 9th Kyiv Security Forum, organized by Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.

According to the MEP, with no clear political vision and adherence to fundamental values, including, above all, the rule of law, freedom and democracy, the European community will not be able to overcome the existing problems.

“The European Union – is primarily a union of values. So I think that we should properly solve the issue of refugees through the prism of values as well. There is no place for politicians that want to derive personal benefit from the citizens, there is no room for corruption. All the problems are caused by the lack of credence to the values,” – he said.

At the same time Lars Adaktusson expressed the opinion, that with the current problems in the EU in mind, Ukraine will have to show great determination and courage in order to defend its’ European identity and the right to be a part of Europe.
