The West needs to forge a coalition to defeat the putin’s regime, - Member of European Parliament
21.03.24

Durable and sustainable peace in the European continent is impossible without a total and complete defeat of russia.

This was the message by Rasa Juknevičienė, MEP (Lithuania), Minister of Defence of Lithuania in 2008-12 at the 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum established by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk “Open Ukraine” Foundation.

“We need a coalition to defeat the putin’s regime. And we need to ask ourselves why such coalition is not yet in place. After all, there was once and anti-Hitler coalition. For me, todays’ putin in the amalgam of Hitler and Stalin in one person. And sadly enough, not all democracies understand this”, - she stressed.

In her opinion, a grave mistake is that the Western states have not yet formed any strategy vis-à-vis russia.

“If we want to attain our strategic goals, we need to change our narrative from defence one into mighty ones that we shall implement all possibilities, - Rasa Juknevičienė emphasized.

The MEP also stressed the importance of Ukraine joining the EU and NATO, “without any grey zones or Munich Agreements”.

“Ukraine’s victory, 1991 borderlines, special tribunal, repatriation, deputinization, denuclearization – all these will turn russia into a normal country. This will also redefine Belarus, and the Caucasus. For Ukraine, the short-term strategy is – weaponry, weaponry, weaponry,” – she summed up.

The 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum is held March 21-22, 2024, to gather transatlantic support for Ukraine. This year Forum slogan is “Ukraine’s call to the World: Together We Prevail!”.
