With russia, one should not repeat mistakes of 1945 and 1991 – dissident Myroslav Marynovych
21.03.24

russia must be punished for its crimes against Ukraine, so that they never repeat again.

This is the idea of Myroslav Marynovych, the First of December Initiative Group member, advisor to the Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University at the 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum established by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk “Open Ukraine” Foundation.

“I fear mistakes of Yalta in 1945 and in the former Soviet Union countries in 1991. I mean no punishment and no repentance. Back then, Yalta concealed crimes of communism for the sake of security. In 1991 the situation repeated itself”, - he stressed.

Mr. Marynovych also stressed the collective responsibility of any people for the deeds of its authorities.

“The greatest victory of the German nation in the XXth century was its defeat in the Second World war. The greatest victory of the russian nation will be their defeat in the war with Ukraine and ensuing overhaul of their statehood”, - he added.

“If the russian nation could become penitent and undergo katharsis, it could open doors into a future, - summed up the First of December Initiative Group member.

The 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum is held March 21-22, 2024, to gather transatlantic support for Ukraine. This year Forum slogan is “Ukraine’s call to the World: Together We Prevail!”.
