For over 80 years Europe is living without wars, and its peoples fail to understand fully the scale of tragedy that Ukraine is facing today.
This was emphasized by Antonio López-Istúriz White, MEP (Spain), Secretary General of the Centrist Democrat International (IDC-CDI) at the 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum established by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk “Open Ukraine” Foundation.
“Ukrainians will have to understand that European societies need time to comprehend fully that your war is also our war,” – he said.
According to him, the EU failed to react respectively during the war in the Balkans, annexation of Crimea or when russia invaded Georgia.
“We are real close now, but it is still a long way to react in the most adequate way. Our European army is the Ukrainian army. We do not have our joint army as some country are more devoted to this idea, some less, - MEP White said.
According to him, there is little attention now of European mass media to the war in Ukraine.
“Every day they mention the Gaza strip, and much less they speak of Ukraine. I’d call on all media to give more attention to what is happening in Ukraine. If there is no mention, no word of it, no photo – people get disinterested”, - the MEP stated.
“For democratic politicians, a must-have is to inform people. We ought to unite and make our proponents those who lean towards ultra-right agenda. It is important to unite Europe”, - he summed up.
The 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum is held March 21-22, 2024, to gather transatlantic support for Ukraine. This year Forum slogan is “Ukraine’s call to the World: Together We Prevail!”.
