Ukraine has every chance of experiencing an investment boom, but only once a sustainable peace has been achieved, with clear security guarantees and the protection of its sovereignty.
This was stated by Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Chairman of the Kyiv Security Forum and Prime Minister of Ukraine in 2014–2016, during a special KSF discussion entitled ‘Ukraine’s Recovery: Talk or Action?’, dedicated to the outcomes of URC 2026.
‘The key prerequisite for any genuine private investment in Ukraine is an end to the war. Full stop. There is no other way to attract private investors to Ukraine without a lasting and just peace, without clear security guarantees, and without strong Ukrainian Armed Forces capable of defending the country’s sovereign territory and, indeed, protecting our allies’ investments,” he said.
The politician added: “We will see a genuine investment boom once we have achieved a just, lasting, honest and lasting peace.”
Speaking about the security situation, Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasised that the Defence Forces had managed to turn the tide on the front line. “The situation has changed. Neither Putin, nor his allies, nor even some of our friends on the other side of the Atlantic expected the situation on the battlefield that we now face. But this is war – and it’s like a rollercoaster. There are ups and downs. We must not rest on our laurels,” said the KSF Chairman.
The discussion also brought together Katarina Mathernová, the European Union’s Ambassador to Ukraine; Anka Feldhusen, Ukraine’s Business Ombudsman and Germany’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine (2019–2023); Nataliia Shapoval, Head of the KSE Institute and Vice-President for Political Studies at the Kyiv School of Economics; and Danylo Lubkivsky, Member of the KSF Security Council and former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in 2014.
The discussion took place as part of the new project ‘Kyiv Security Forum: Deep Strike’ – a series of expert discussions on pressing issues and key trends in the fields of security, the economy and Ukraine’s foreign policy. The project aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the most significant challenges shaping the country’s future.
The Kyiv Security Forum (KSF) is an annual international event launched in 2007 on the initiative of the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.
