Vadym Galaychuk: Since the start of the war, the situation in Parliament has changed dramatically
21.03.24

The Parliament continues to operate and adopt decisions, but the unanimity is rather different compared to one in early in the war.

These were the words of Vadym Galaychuk, MP, the First Deputy Head of the Parliament Committee on EU Integration at the 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum established by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk “Open Ukraine Foundation”.

“All parliamentary voting procedures in the early stages of the full-scale Russian aggression demonstrated 300+ voices cast in favor, and draft laws were speedily reconciled by the committees. That was an exemplary parliamentary unity and readiness to work in unison for a single objective”, - he said.

“Regrettably, the situation has dramatically changed. I won’t call it a parliamentary crisis and hope that it is just a temporary setback”, - Vadym Galaychuk added.

He is also convinced that integration laws to join the EU and NATO are capable of bringing back unity into the Parliament.

“I have no doubt that we have a positive perspective for unison – Ukraine joining the EU and NATO. Harmonizing legislation is a must-have to continue along the road to the EU. So, all MPs need to do what they ought to”, - he said.

“Naturally, our partners do comprehend the situation in Ukraine and assist us in reaching mutual understanding and attaining better outcome”, - MP, the First Deputy Head of the Parliamentary Committee on EU integration added.

The 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum is held March 21-22, 2024, to gather transatlantic support for Ukraine. This year Forum slogan is “Ukraine’s call to the World: Together We Prevail!”.
