Targeting russian oil refineries heavily impact russia’s capabilities to wage this war.
This was the statement made by General Ben Hodges, Commanding General, US Army Europe in 2014-17 at the 16th Kyiv Security Forum established by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk “Open Ukraine” Foundation.
“Undoubtedly, striking oil refineries has impressive effect. russia’s possibility to fund this war diminishes, moreover, it has much less of the needed fuel to continue combat operations. I’d recommend ignoring such calls to stop such strikes, - General Hodges said.
He also emphasized the need to further enforce sanctions against russia.
In his opinion, 2024 will become the year of industrial competition.
“Both Ukraine and the West must win this competition. We mean production of munitions, as well as repairs and servicing equipment. This will enable Ukrainians to repair the damaged weaponry at the frontline alongside amassing arsenals of munitions”, - General Ben Hodges stated.
In his opinion, Ukraine must press heavily onto russian logistics, especially in Crimea, to make the peninsula uncomfortable for russian troops.
“I am not expecting a dramatic decline in Ukraine’s ability to self-defend. New Armed Forces Chief of Staff Mr. Syrsky’s job is to stabilize and hold the frontline. And it is exactly here that industrial competition plays a prominent role. Moreover, Ukrainian Army needs new combat units, to ensure rotation of its active army,” – General added.
The 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum is held March 21-22, 2024, to gather transatlantic support for Ukraine. This year Forum slogan is “Ukraine’s call to the World: Together We Prevail!”.
