Support for Ukraine remains strong in the U.S., showing no signs of diminishing.
General David Petraeus, a member of the KSF Security Council, Commander of U.S. Central Command from 2008 to 2010, and Director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency from 2011 to 2012, made this statement during the discussion titled "UKRAINE'S UNBREAKABLE GENERATION: Reflections by General Petraeus – and What Washington Sees" organized by the KSF.
"I can confirm what my colleague stated: there is a strong level of support for Ukraine in the U.S., and it is not diminishing. In particular, the Senate actively supports Ukraine: 90 out of 100 senators support sanctions against russia,” he noted.
At the same time, Petraeus added that some individuals within the U.S. executive branch view Ukraine primarily as a recipient of American aid.
He expressed his agreement with the perspective that Ukraine is an innovative, resilient, and advanced high-tech country, excelling not just in manufacturing and engineering, but in a broader context as well.
"Even when we visit areas previously occupied by russia and now liberated, we observe the immense pride of the Ukrainian people. While many houses may be destroyed, the streets remain clean. This clearly illustrates that even the enemy cannot stop the desire to make their country beautiful and clean," the General said.
Petreus emphasized the immense respect this situation commands, which is communicated to Washington.
"Yes, sometimes we hear that we need to take care of ourselves first and reduce foreign aid. However, Congress allocates budgetary funds to assist Ukraine, indicating that we cannot abandon our support for Ukraine,” he said. He also pointed out that other important figures in American leadership strongly support Ukraine as well.
