“Only the combined efforts of all churches and religions can stop the war” – Pope’s representative
24.04.26

Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine prompts the world’s diverse churches and religions to unite – while maintaining their distinct identities – in pursuit of the shared goal of peace. This was stated by the Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine, Archbishop Visvaldas Kulbokas, at the 18th annual Kyiv Security Forum “Darkness or Dawn: Is Light Ahead?”

“Russia’s aggression against Ukraine compels us all to unite… War forces us to stand together while maintaining our distinct identities… The peace of which the Lord speaks even transcends the human peace we dream of, therefore, our task is to build a future peace, an eternal peace,” the Archbishop said.

The representative of the Holy See remarked that the war gives an opportunity to reflect on the importance of joining efforts for peace.

“In this sense, it is a challenge both for Pope Leo and for the Catholic Church – how to join efforts with other churches and religions, because only together can we stop the war that also has its foundations in worldviews,” he emphasised.
According to the Apostolic Nuncio, the war against Ukraine is not merely russia’s war. “It is the war of the devil, of Satan, who seeks to divide,” he said. Therefore, as the Archbishop noted, the whole of humanity – not only churches and religions – must stand united.

Kyiv Security Forum (KSF) is an annual international event launched in 2007 on the initiative of Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation. This year’s Forum is taking place on 23-24 April.
