Russian dictator volodymyr putin wages his war against Ukraine as he cannot live with the European choice that Ukraine has made.
These were the words of Taavi Rõivas, one of the Members of the KSF Security Council, Prime Minister of Estonia in 2014-16 at the 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum established by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation “Open Ukraine”.
He also mentioned that Estonia opted for the same path in its own time.
“I register a lot of similarities between our two countries. It was a favorable time for us as the Soviet Union was falling apart, and we profited from this opportunity. Our choice was clear: Estonia should not be a bridge between russia and western values, as Estonia belongs to the West and its values. One just cannot remain somewhere in the middle, — the former Estonian Prime Minister emphasized.
According to Mr. Rõivas, it is difficult to guess what putin’s thoughts are, “while it is obvious that he cannot accept the fact that Ukraine has chosen a different path for itself”.
“The ultimate objective for Ukraine is to become a full-fledged member of the European Unian, and Europe comprehends this clearly”, - he said.
The 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum is held March 21-22, 2024, to gather transatlantic support for Ukraine. This year Forum slogan is “Ukraine’s call to the World: Together We Prevail!”.
