The world must come to its senses: international law does not work – Arseniy Yatsenyuk
23.04.26

The international community must realize and acknowledge that the erosion of international law and the retreat of democracy are already leading to disaster. Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Chairman of the Kyiv Security Forum and Ukraine's Prime Minister from 2014 to 2016, made this statement during the 18th annual KSF, which took place in Kyiv on April 23–24 and was themed "Darkness or Dawn: Is Light Ahead?"

"For 13 years, Russia has been destroying and shelling Ukraine with impunity. International law has ceased to function. Criminals and tyrants are welcomed with red carpets.

Democracy is retreating, alliances are crumbling, and trust between allies is being destroyed. The enemies of democracy are triumphant. The general noise around us drowns out voices. "Intelligence has become not only artificial, but also scarce, and there is less and less of it," noted Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

At the same time, the Chairman of the KSF added, "Is there light ahead? I am optimistic; I think so. But we live in times when this question is no longer rhetorical."

"Selfishness, narcissism, greed, lies, and deceit are leading the world to catastrophe. Let's come to our senses!" the politician emphasized.

Open Ukraine is an international foundation established by Arseniy Yatsenyuk in July 2007 to strengthen Ukraine's authority in the world. The foundation organizes the Kyiv Security Forum every year. This leading international discussion platform focuses on issues of war and peace. The foundation also organizes the Youth Kyiv Security Forum to develop a new generation of Ukrainian leaders.
