Telegram assists russia to disseminate its narratives and propaganda.
This was the key message of Viktor Shlinchak, Head of the Institute of World Policy board, at the 10th Youth Kyiv Security Forum, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk “Open Ukraine” Foundation.
“This is, perhaps, the greatest challenge for us nowadays”, - he stated.
Viktor Shlinchak also reminded the audience that until recently many believed that those reading books, not the ones watching TV, rule the world.
These days, according to him, this notion must be transformed to say that the rulers of the world engage in other activities different from TikTok-ing, Instagram-ing, or following Telegram feeds.
“When speaking about Telegram, we need to comprehend that it is just one way of assisting our enemies in spreading specific information or narratives”, - the expert stressed.
Viktor Shlinchak also quoted statistics saying that some 76% of Ukrainian households trust what Western media say.
“Today, russia is a grand expert in using Western media for its own purposes to press upon Ukrainian and other audiences. Hence, use your critical and analytical thinking when reading Western media, verify information and its authors”, - he stressed.
According to the expert, it is the sole approach that can help counter the challenges we all face today.
Youth Kyiv Security Forum is the leading platform to engage young leaders into discussion of national security issues and international relations agenda.
