General Reinhard Wolski,Chairman of the Berlin Security Conference, stressed the need for more active support for Ukraine fighting against the Russian aggression. Vladimir Putin’s goal is to bring down the European Union and NATO integrity and cohesion.

General Wolski emphasized this ideaat the 17th Annual Kyiv Security Forum “UA: UNITE AGAIN TO DEFEAT THE GLOBAL AGGRESSOR”, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation “Open Ukraine”.

“In 2014, when we talked about Crimea, we said that the situation had changed. That is, it was back in 2014. We retarded our support for Ukraine, our assistance and so on. Putin aims to break up the integrity and cohesion existing between the EU and NATO, that is his ultimate goal. To backlash, we need to continue support of Ukraine and its idea. We believe that NATO won’t fall apart to please Putin. We must prevent this. Therefore, we fully support Ukraine, and we must be more proactive in this support,” the General emphasized. 

He also stressed that when it comes to peace deals and negotiations to achieve peace, nothing about Ukraine should be without Ukraine. Ukraine must be present at negotiations table and formulate its terms of any peace deal. “We must keep this on our radars and make NATO and the EU remember this as well,” Reinhard Wolski added.

Speaking about ceasefire instruments, the General remarked that the OSCE “is not working.”

“I am convinced that if ceasefire is agreed upon, NATO Alllies and the EU members must reconcile peace terms and deploy a monitoring mission with a clear mandate and appropriate resources to ensure durable and sustainable peace. This is the way I see the situation. Someone must embark on this. Most probably, the Europeans. Perhaps with participation of the US. “If the Americans are not there, than it is for the Europeans to dellliver,” Reinhard Wolski said.

The Kyiv Security Forum, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk “Open Ukraine” foundation, is the main platform in Ukraine to discuss issues of war and peace, national and global security.
