The psychological exhaustion resulting from years of grief and uncertainty will not end when the war is over. It will continue to affect Ukrainians for a long time. Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex and founder of the Invictus Games Foundation, made this statement during the 18th annual Kyiv Security Forum, which was themed “Darkness or Dawn: Is Light Ahead?”
“In addition to visible losses, there are also invisible ones: the trauma of those returning from war, the psychological strain endured by families living under constant shelling and bombing, and the exhaustion resulting from years of uncertainty and grief,” he said.
According to Prince Harry, the end of the war itself will not bring about a quick psychological recovery. "This is something that will need to be dealt with, and it will be a long process," he added.
“The war is being waged not only on the battlefield, but also in people’s minds… Through disinformation and the slow, creeping erosion of hope. Psychological warfare aims to divide people. It is absolutely clear that people are exhausted," the Duke of Sussex emphasized.
At the same time, he noted that Ukrainians “continue to stick together and must continue to do so.”
Kyiv Security Forum (KSF) is an annual international event launched in 2007 on the initiative of Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.
