Chargé d`affaires ad interim of Denmark in Ukraine, Lars Olaf Søvndahl Petersen, made this statement during the Kyiv Security Forum Special Session on the Global Situation and the Prospects for Peace in Ukraine "12 Years of Russia's War Against Ukraine: What Comes Next?"

"This year, defence spending will reach 5% of GDP. Part of these funds will go to supporting Ukraine. We are announcing an additional USD 400 million that will be allocated to Ukraine this year for military needs. This is our answer to the question of whether we can cooperate effectively with Ukraine and what lessons we should learn from our Ukrainian partners to withstand and prepare for what may come our way," he said.

At the same time, the diplomat stressed that Denmark does not ignore external threats or harsh statements by leaders of other countries.

"This has forced us to be realistic. Over the past few years, we have been quite active in supporting the Ukrainian struggle for freedom, as well as the struggle for European freedom. At the same time, we are preparing for any possible developments, whatever they may be," Lars Olaf Søvndahl Petersen summarised.

Open Ukraine is an international foundation established by Arseniy Yatsenyuk in July 2007 to strengthen Ukraine's authority in the world. The foundation organises the Kyiv Security Forum every year. This leading international discussion platform focuses on issues of war and peace. The foundation also organises the Youth Kyiv Security Forum to develop a new generation of Ukrainian leaders.
