Ukrainian society, as of the fourth year of the full-scale Russian invasion, is
exhausted, but remains resilient.
This is evidenced by the results of a sociological survey conducted by the Razumkov Center and the Kyiv Security Forum in April-May 2025 specifically for the 17 th Annual Kyiv Security Forum “UA: LET’S UNITE AGAIN TO DEFEAT THE
GLOBAL AGGRESSOR”, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation “Open
Ukraine”.
“This is not just sociology, this is the voice of our nation. These numbers reflect the internal state of every Ukrainian. Three key conclusions that I want to share with you today are as follows. First: despite fatigue, Ukrainian society demonstrates its resilience. Indeed, we are exhausted, but our spirit is not defeated. Second: faith in our victory remains high, despite all the challenges and trials. And third. Our pillars remain unalterable - the Army, our allies and victory. This is what supports us and gives us the strength to move forward,” - said Viktoriya Holovach, a KSF expert.
In turn, Yuriy Yakymenko, the President of the Oleksandr Razumkov Ukrainian
Center for Economic and Political Research, noted that the survey results
demonstrate a cross-section of Ukrainians’ psychological state after more than a
thousand days of full-scale war, “their ideas about themselves, about the country, the world, their friends and enemies, about the very present and future of Ukraine.”
“No wonder that at such a backdrop of uncertainty and anxiety, people trust their
defenders the most - the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the Army remains the
undisputed leader of public trust. In the same vein, other agencies in security sector, namely, the Defense Forces of Ukraine. And the President of Ukraine, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In addition, democracy is the greatest value for Ukrainians, the most desirable type of state system, even in war-time conditions,” - Yuriy Yakymenko noted.
According to survey results, Ukrainians strive for peace, but not any how or at any
price.
“The complete liberation of Ukraine from Russian troops as a condition for peace - this is the requirement of the lion’s share of Ukrainian citizens. The absolute majority of Ukrainians are not ready to give up either Ukrainian territories or the pro-Western vector of Ukraine’s development. These are the ever-present red lines for Ukraine. Other red lines include: reduction of the Armed Forces. In the same vein, the majority of Ukrainians think that Ukraine should not drop its path towards the NATO membership,” the Center’s Director noted.
In addition, the vast majority (over three quarters) of Ukrainians believe that Ukraine is capable to win if partners provide enough weapons or the West assists with human resources.
The face-to-face survey was conducted from April 24 to May 4 in Vinnytsia, Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, Zakarpattia, Zaporizhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Kherson, Khmelnytskyi, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Chernivtsi regions and the city of Kyiv (in Zaporizhia, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Kherson regions - only in the government-controlled territories and areas with no hostilities).
2021 respondents aged 18+ were surveyed. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.3%.
