There are no reasons to deny Ukraine long-range systems, - general Douglas Lute
22.03.24

Ukraine must be given means to target the launch sites attacking its interior.

This was the statement by Lieutenant General Douglas Lute, US Ambassador at NATO in 2013-17 voiced at the 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum established by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation “Open Ukraine”.

“There is no military sense to deny Ukraine long-range missiles to sever aggressor’s chains of logistics. In particular, the Crimean (Kerch) bridge. This could assist isolating russian occupiers,” – General emphasized.

“Ukraine must also be able to target the launch sites attacking its territories, as it was the case last night. There is no air defence system that relies only on defence of the targets. An effective air defence system couples that with attacking the launch sites, - Douglas Lute added.

According to him, Western countries fail to do their best to assist, and this endangers Ukrainian infrastructure.

“We should not only step-up our support, but amend our approaches: aid should be provided not only for Ukraine to withstand, but to ascertain Ukraine’s victory,” – General stressed.

The 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum is held March 21-22, 2024, to gather transatlantic support for Ukraine. This year Forum slogan is “Ukraine’s call to the World: Together We Prevail!”.
