NATO Allies are faced with the need to invest more in defenses. At the same time, it is yet unknown whether the investment-funded new technologies prove effective on the battlefield.
This was emphasized by Mariana Budjeryn, Senior Research Associate, Harvard Kennedy School Belfer Center, at the 17th Annual Kyiv Security Forum “UA: UNITE AGAIN TO DEFEAT THE GLOBAL AGGRESSOR”, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation “Open Ukraine”.
“The main thing here is the combination of several factors: accelerated scaling up ever-changing new technologies to current needs on the battlefield. That is, the main questions are: How to accelerate this process? How to expand in in the shortest time possible? Every new weapon brings in counter-weapons,” she said.

According to her, first, there is a drone, then there is EW decreasing the drone’s effect, then there is fiber optics obstructing EW.
“We, as European partners, as NATO ALLIES, are faced with the need to invest more in our defenses. It is only then that these new technologies funded by investment, become effective on the battlefield.” - Mariana Budjeryn expressed her opinion.
The Kyiv Security Forum, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk “Open Ukraine” foundation, is the main platform in Ukraine to discuss issues of war and peace, national and global security.
