31.10.24

NATO spares no effort to make Ukraine prevail and become the Alliance full-fledged member.

These were the words of Marie-Doha Besancenot, Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, NATO at the 10th Youth Kyiv Security Forum organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk “Open Ukraine” Foundation.

Ms Besancenot also stressed that the first foreign visit of the new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte was to Ukraine, followed by the NATO Defence Ministers’ Meeting with the President of Ukraine.

According to her, the NATO Secretary General emphasized three priorities. First – to continue investing in defences of the Alliance member-states. Second – to support Ukraine in its countering russian aggression, and assisting Ukrainian capacities to produce its own armaments. And third – more global challenges to Euro-Atlantic security.

“Ukraine will become the NATO member-state, there is no doubt about that. All Alliance member-states have supported this decision at earlier Alliance summits”, - she mentioned.

Ms Besancenot also informed the audience that NATO Command has been set up to coordinate efforts in assisting and training Ukraine, and that the EU-level decision has approved the minimum of Euro 40 billion of military assistance to Ukraine next year.

Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, NATO also drew attention to the need to explore the Ukrainian battlefield experience as the Ukrainian Armed Forces “work wonders on the battlefield”.

In particular, Ms Besancenot emphasized the new technologies as game-changers in the combat zone, namely, Sea Baby unmanned surface vessels and other devices.

“They’ve totally incapacitated the russian Black Sea fleet. What we witness today is that Ukraine independently develops other technologies, including jamming capacities. Modern technologies, all these innovations transform future combat efforts”, - she stressed.

Saluting all Youth Kyiv Security Forum participants, Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, NATO expressed her hopes that the young generation of Ukrainians – war generation – shall become the generation of winners.

Youth Kyiv Security Forum is the leading platform to engage young leaders into discussion of national security issues and international relations.
