“The enemy’s aggression is driven by pseudo-religious and pseudo-philosophical frameworks” – OCU Spokesperson
24.04.26

The motivation for russia’s aggression is rooted in pseudo-religious, pseudo-philosophical, and deeply ideological constructs driven by the conviction that they represent the sole civilisational truth. The only possible response to this is unity coupled with diversity. This was stated by Metropolitan Yevstratiy (Zorya), Spokesperson for the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), at the 18th annual Kyiv Security Forum “Darkness or Dawn: Is Light Ahead?”

According to the Metropolitan, aggression that stems from political, personal, economic, or other rational motivations cannot be countered by purely rational responses alone.
“The motivation for this aggression is, in fact, rooted in pseudo-religious, pseudo-philosophical, and deeply ideological frameworks,” Metropolitan Yevstratiy (Zorya) emphasised.

“One of the ideological tenets that serves as a cornerstone for the ideology and practice of the ‘’russian world” is the notion that their specific model of both the state and state-religious relations… represents the sole authentic civilisational truth,” the OCU Spokesperson explained.

He added: “мuscovy seeks allies among diverse conservative circles and finds them — ranging from atheistic North Korea to the pseudo-theocratic Iran.”

The Metropolitan emphasised that the response must also be ideological in nature. “The response to this false model, which is truly a model of darkness, is found in Ukrainian religious realities, and specifically in the model of the Ukrainian Kyivan Church. It demonstrates that it is possible to maintain unity while simultaneously embracing diversity,” Yevstratiy (Zorya) stressed.

Kyiv Security Forum (KSF) is an annual international event launched in 2007 on the initiative of Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.
