NATO Allies can and must do more to support Ukraine, otherwise in 2-3 years it will be much too late.
This is what Troels Lund Poulsen, Minister of Defence of Denmark said at the 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum established by the Arsenuy Yatsenyuk “Open Ukraine” Foundation.
“Why am I here today? I want to communicate with the people of Ukraine and state that we shall be here for as long as it takes”, - the Minister said.
He also emphasized that NATO Allies must work for a long-term perspective, as russian aggression is not against Ukraine only.
“russia will not stop and will move on. If we fail to act today, tomorrow it will be too late. Time is the crucial factor now. In 2-3 years it will be too late for other countries to “wake up”, — Troels Lund Poulsen stressed.
In particular, the Minister stated that some Allies’ defence expenditures are insufficient, and that there are issues with European military-defence capabilities, in particular, with munitions production.
“This is scandalous that we cannot produce the needed quantities of munitions,” – the Minister stressed.
Minister Poulsen called on the Western countries to accelerate their investment into security.
“We must demonstrate russia that we are capable and ready to defend ourselves”, - Troels Lund Poulsen stated.
The 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum is held March 21-22, 2024, to gather transatlantic support for Ukraine. This year Forum slogan is “Ukraine’s call to the World: Together We Prevail!”.
