In warfare, the human factor remains decisive, as the manufacturing, testing, deployment, and operation of military equipment cannot be fully automated. This was stated by Colonel Mykyta “Raz-Dva” Nadtochii, Deputy Commander of the 1st Azov Corps (National Guard of Ukraine), at the 18th annual Kyiv Security Forum “Darkness or Dawn: Is Light Ahead?”
Despite our martial heritage and Cossack history, we are facing significant recruitment challenges. Yet people remain the absolute foundation. Without a human, a drone will not fly. Without a human, it will neither be produced nor tested,” he said.
Nadtochii added that there is a very popular opinion in society that drones will win the war. However, he stressed that “a drone is nothing without a human.”
The serviceman also urged international partners to draw lessons from Ukraine’s experience, warning that Russia is a country with imperial ambitions that will not end with Ukraine.
“History is cyclical. What Russia is doing to Ukraine is, in effect, a large-scale testing ground—an effort to determine what works and how it can push further westward. Russia’s ultimate goal, in fact, is world domination,” Nadtochyi asserted.
“Open Ukraine” is an international foundation established in 2007 on the initiative of Arseniy Yatsenyuk to strengthen Ukraine’s international standing. Each year, it organises the Kyiv Security Forum – Ukraine’s leading international platform for discussing war and peace – as well as the Youth Kyiv Security Forum, aimed at fostering a new generation of Ukrainian leaders.
