Iryna Geraschenko: Coalition of Responsibility must be formed in Ukrainian Parliament
21.03.24

At the backdrop of war, one should not oppose country’s unity and democracy.

This is what Iryna Geraschenko, MP, Parliament Committee on foreign affairs member said at the 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum established by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk “Open Ukraine Foundation”.

“I do not like it when unity and democracy are opposed to each other. In fact, national unity equals democracy. At the same time national unity must be built on unity of values and principles instead of fear”, - she emphasized.

Iryna Geraschenko is certain that loss of subjectivity is the greatest risk that Ukrainian Parliament faces today.

“Naturally, war leads to power concentration, but war is not a proper excuse for the Parliament and the Government to lose subjectivity,” – she stressed.

Recognizing this issue is the way to resolve it, she believes.

“All presidents held little love to Parliament, this is true. At the same time, today we see the first President ever who doesn’t communicate with the Parliament. This is wrong at the backdrops of all challenges Ukraine currently faces. Hence, the dialogues must resume, and it is for the President to take the first step. – Iryna Geraschenko emphasized.

According to her, it is necessary to reform the parliamentary mono-majority by creating a coalition of responsibility, and the government of national unity based on the latter.

“I believe this will assist us in becoming a truly European democracy”, - Iryna Geraschenko summed up.

The 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum is held March 21-22, 2024, to gather transatlantic support for Ukraine. This year Forum slogan is “Ukraine’s call to the World: Together We Prevail!”.
