A strong and sustainable peace is still an unattainable goal because of standpoints taken by Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
This was the major idea voiced by Fabrice Pothier, CEO Rasmussen Global at the 17th Annual Kyiv Security Forum “UA: UNITE AGAIN TO DEFEAT THE GLOBAL AGGRESSOR”, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation “Open Ukraine”.
“The victory today lies primarily via resources that we must deliver to Ukraine. Still, a durable peace is now unattainable not only because of Putin, but because of President Trump, seemingly similar in his ideology to the Russian President and wanting to get away from European security issues,” Fabrice Pothier noted.

He criticized European policy for its tardity and feeble decision-making processes after 2022. According to him, these arrive late every time.
“We have always acted late, and decisions have not always been on the par with magnitude of threats. We must give Ukraine a chance to remain a sovereign state even if some of its territories remain the subject of disputes with Russia,” he emphasized.
In addition, Fabrice Pothier drew attention to NATO’s powerful military potential and the need to use it in the post-war perspective, as well as the requierement to invest into Ukrainian defense industry.
“Ukraine can become a powerful player in defense sector. We must integrate Ukrainian drones production capabilities with European defense ones. Drones are good, but they are not a sole tool to deter adversaries,” he added.
At the same time, he summoned to rethink sanctions policy, in particular, far-right forces in Europe. According to him, despite the threat they pose to the rule of law, complete isolation thereof only enhances their influence.
“We made a mistake when we rejected the far right. Today they take one third of European voters. Something akin to comprehensive “vaccination” should work, they should be introduced into general political mainstream, so that voters develop immunity to them, and then voters’ will should be properly considered,” Fabrice Pothier concluded.
The Kyiv Security Forum, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk “Open Ukraine” foundation, is the main platform in Ukraine to discuss issues of war and peace, national and global security.
