Evelyn Farkas: US Leadership Fails to Recognize Ukrainian Suffering, but Faith in the American people should not be Lost
08.05.25

In the United States, top down from Congress to local communities, people always strive for policies aimed at protecting human rights. Nowadays, political process leaves much to be desired, claimed Evelyn Farkas, Executive Director, McCain Institute.

She emphasized this idea at the 17th Annual Kyiv Security Forum “UA: UNITE AGAIN TO DEFEAT THE GLOBAL AGGRESSOR,” organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation “Open Ukraine.”

We hear no messages from some of our senior leadership. We hear discussion about mineral deals, about some business deals. Unfortunately though, there is no real recognition and loud acknowledgment of human suffering. In the United States, top down, from Congress to local communities, the people of America have always insisted on policies protecting human rights. I would not recommend losing faith in the American people,” said Evelyn Farkas.

According to her, current political process leaves much to be desired, because what is happening today “is contrary to our values.”

We must use our influence and our power to protect the good. And we must achieve the common good,” Evelyn Farkas urged.

The Kyiv Security Forum, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk “Open Ukraine” foundation, is the main platform in Ukraine to discuss issues of war and peace, national and global security.
