Yatsenyuk on the trilateral meeting: Putin wants Ukraine and the entire Western world to capitulate, not reach a peace agreement
22.01.26

Russian President Vladimir Putin is not ready to conclude a real peace agreement with Ukraine – he is conducting fictitious negotiations to stall for time. This was emphasised by the Chairman of the Kyiv Security Forum, Prime Minister of Ukraine in 2014-2016, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, commenting on the upcoming trilateral meeting between representatives of the United States, Ukraine and Russia in the United Arab Emirates (expected on 23-24 January – ed.).

‘Russia is conducting fictitious negotiations. The Russians are not acting in good faith. War criminal Putin’s idea is to drag out time, outplay and outmanoeuvre us,’ the former prime minister stressed.

According to him, Putin is counting on the possibility of continuing ‘endless’ negotiations. "Putin wants Ukraine to capitulate. And he, along with China, wants the entire Western world to capitulate. It is hard to imagine that Putin would agree, for example, to the deployment of NATO troops or troops from Alliance member states on the sovereign territory of Ukraine [...] And it is hard to imagine that Putin really believes that Ukraine can be a sovereign state and a member of the EU," the KSF Chairman stressed.

He stressed the need to exert maximum pressure on Russia. According to him, Ukraine is now negotiating with the US and the EU, ‘returning to the starting point.’

Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed the need for unity in the free world in the face of challenges.

"The more divided we are, the more united autocratic and dictatorial regimes will be. Strategic partners such as Russia, China, Iran, Venezuela and North Korea celebrate when they see such divisions. The only solution is to overcome our differences and contradictions and find the strength to unite. Otherwise, the future of the free Western world will be destroyed," said the Chairman of the KSF.
