Both US Presidential candidates will continue supporting Ukraine, - John Herbst
01.11.24

Both US Presidential candidates will continue supporting Ukraine.

This was the message by Amb. John Herbst, Director, Eurasia Center, Atlantic Council, United States Ambassador to Ukraine in 2003-06 at the 10th Youth Kysiv Security Forum, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk “Open Ukraine” Foundation.

“So far we’ve seen no distance between Harris and Biden on Ukraine. What Harris has done is she’s wrapped herself around Biden’s policy,” - he stressed.

“There is a popular belief that a Trumps’ Administration throws Ukraine under the bus. What we see now is that Biden’s Administration disallows Ukraine use long-range armaments in broad russian territory”, - Amb.Herbst added.

He argues that Kamala Harris has wrapped herself around in Biden’s policy. On the other hand, new opportunities might present themselves in case of Donald Trump’s victory.

“On the Trump side they are people supporting Ukraine. And among potential Cabinet members are those who would not want to be associated as pro-putin. And this can possibly remove the self-deterrent aspects present in the Biden Administration”, - John Herbst concluded.

Youth Kyiv Security Forum is the leading platform to engage young leaders into discussion of national security issues and international relations agenda.
