Without Ukraine’s membership in NATO, Europe’s security will be jeopardized, - Valeriy Chaly
22.03.24

Ukraine must become the NATO member and get the respective invitation to accession at the upcoming summit in Washington, D.C.

This was the message by Valeriy Chaly, Chair of the UCMC Board, diplomatic advisor to the President of Ukraine in 2014-15, Ambassador of Ukraine to the US in 2015-19 a the 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum established by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation “Open Ukraine”.

“As Admiral Bauer rightly mentioned, Ukrainian flag shall be among other NATO flags, even though the questions of “if” and “when” remain. russia’s war against Ukraine makes this a more pressing issue today. For us, the issue is crystal clear – Ukraine must join NATO,” — said Ambassador Chaly.

According to him, if Ukraine and its partners miss this opportunity in the nearest future, this mistake will jeopardize security of Europe.

“I trust President Biden demonstrates leadership at the NATO summit – both his personal leadership and that of the US – for the entire world. There must be an invitation issued at the Washington summit. Anything else will be an error. I hope that this step will be taken. Our military at the frontline await this invitation”, - Valeriy Chaly emphasized.

The 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum is held March 21-22, 2024, to gather transatlantic support for Ukraine. This year Forum slogan is “Ukraine’s call to the World: Together We Prevail!”.
