Andriy Biletsky on russian offensive near Avdiyivka: this direction is the most difficult one
22.03.24

Ukrainian military do everything possible and impossible to halt the russian offensive.

These were the words of Colonel Andriy Biletsky, Commander of the Third Separate Assault Brigade, Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum established by the Arseniy Yatsenuyk “Open Ukraine” Foundation.

He mentioned that the Third Assault Brigade is now fighting at the Avdiyivka direction, and  this very direction is the major one in the enemy’s offensive.

“This is the most difficult part of the frontline. I won’t say that the russians improved their combat techniques. They have become times more effective in terms of resources application,” – said Colonel Biletsky.

“Ukrainian military do their utmost, both possible and impossible, to halt the russian offensive near Avdiyivka. We register signs of stabilization now,” – he added.

According to Andriy Biletsky, russian losses are impressive.

“In two incomplete months of our brigade’s operation near Avdiyivka, 2.5 thousand russian soldiers, 18 tanks, more than 50 units of light armored vehicles were destroyed”, - he said.

Commander of the Third Separate Assault Brigade also emphasized that in order to efficiently counteract the enemy, the law on mobilization must be adopted, and the West must provide all necessary weapons.

Answering the question what Ukraine requires now most, Mr. Biletsky said: “In such cases I always say – we need absolutely all. There is no single missile or aircraft that can turn the war tide and resolve all outstanding issues at the frontline. Weapons in wars always mean a multitude of components”.

“Ukraine needs weapons of all types. First and foremost, it is air defence systems, as it is where we are not on the par with russians. And another thing needed is artillery”, — he added.

The 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum is held March 21-22, 2024, to gather transatlantic support for Ukraine. This year Forum slogan is “Ukraine’s call to the World: Together We Prevail!”.
