Admiral Rob Bauer on potential use of nuclear weapons by Russia: rhetoric and reality are miles apart
21.03.24

Currently, there is no sign that the russian federation may use their nuclear arsenal.

This was the idea voiced by Admiral Rob Bauer, the Chair of the NATO Military Committee at the 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum established by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation “Open Ukraine”.

“Nowadays, there are no signs that russia may turn to  using its nuclear arms”, - he said, that Russian rhetoric about using nuclear weapons is divorced from reality.

“At the same time we are closely monitoring what really happens there”, - Admiral Bauer added.

At the same time, Admiral stressed that at the battlefield the russian army learns by their mistakes.

“Naturally, this does not mean that they are an ideal army, or that they achieve all they have planned in terms of coordination and command-and-control. They face tremendous problems. The way they use artillery proves that they are incapable of waging modern war or do maneuvering in line with modern war rules. Artillery shelling is tactics of the Second World war”, - Rob Bauer said.

According to him, russia can produce more missiles and munitions, so the NATO Allies will have to upscale their production of ordnance and munitions.

“Production should go up, and there are respective financial resources”, - said the Admiral.

The 16th Annual Kyiv Security Forum is held March 21-22, 2024, to gather transatlantic support for Ukraine. This year Forum slogan is “Ukraine’s call to the World: Together We Prevail!”.
